There are a lot of prolific songwriters out there, but few as daring as Will McCranie. McCranie has a project going right now called “52/52,” wherein he’s releasing a song a week online for every week of 2010 — no mean feat when you’re touring the country and opening for the likes of the Goo Goo Dolls. Some are remixes, some are covers or studio outtakes, but still, McCranie keeps the new music flowing. And he’s no slouch as a songwriter, putting forth songs that are on the one hand wistful and melancholy, and on the other infused with a sort of upbeat vibrancy. There’s a sort of infectious crackle to McCranie’s music, making catchy, infectious songs such as “You Me Maybe” and “It Ain’t Like Georgia” feel both classic and indelibly modern. McCranie performs at a night of “country that kicks” with Glenn Stewart and JC Young at 9:30 p.m. Friday at Ralph’s Chadwick Square Diner, 148 Grove St., Worcester. (Victor D. Infante)
